Placing DDR3 1066 into a DDR2 667 system. Will it work?

Does anyone know if this will work.😕 I find they cost the same for 4 gb. I was thinking then I would have flexibility to put into another machine in the future.

I know in the PC world this is possible. Not sure about macs.

No, it is not possible in the PC world as well. DDR2 and DDR3 have different slots.

They will simply not fit. And they would not work, of course.

You can only vary frequencies of memories, e.g. DDR3 1066 can be used instead of DDR3 1600 for some processors, but not all...

Only with a select few motherboards that have both types of slots, they are not interchangeable. Macs are just custom build PCs with OS X on them.

You can put higher speed memory in a computer spec'd for a lower speed, but you DDR3/DDR2/DDR1, etc are not interchangeable. And to ensure no one makes that mistake, they all have differently place "notches" so physically you cannot do so.

There are a very few desktop motherboards out there that have both slots (and those are fairly old now as they came out during the transition of DDR2 to DDR3), but for the most part it's not possible for PC's or Macs
