I'm trying to share music between a Mac and a PC laptop. Aside from disabling the XP firewall, how can I configure windows so that I can access the music library on my Mac?

first things first can you see each computer from the other computer.

2nd can you access files off the other computer

If either answer is no then I think we traced down you problems. It deals with networking and networking is just a pain to get working

We didn't have to do anything special with my Mac and our Dell. We're just on the same home network ... that's it. My music showed up in the left sidebar on the Dell.

Of course, this is before our Dell started booting up to the blue screen of death (this is a whole other story, yes :))

Don't forget to check iTunes sharing on the Mac firewall (if you have it enabled). There should be a checkbox for it under services in the Firewall tab of Sharing settings in System Preferences.

under itunes preferences on the mac you have to have sharing enabled and on the PC under itunes preferences you need to have "search for shared music" enabled

Google is your friend...

You need to open the following ports on your XP firewall:

Port 3689 TCP
Port 5353 UDP
