8800GT to a 4870 (upgrade)

I have a 8800GT in my Mac Pro and am wanting a little more firepower for gaming under vista (I play Call of Duty series mostly). I play now happily at 1900x1080 res, but I want to get it up to the 2560x1600 that my Dell is capable of (the 8800 chokes at this res with any usable detail level).

So I am thinking now Apple has a 4870 this should be a lot better than the 8800GT yes?

Little advice is needed I guess as its only a 512Mb card as is the 8800: the increase must be in the cores etc. Does anyone have any experience with the 4870 in a Mac Pro (shes a 3.1 2.8 if that helps)

I think many believe once the 4870 drivers are redone and up to snuff, that it will leap ahead much farther than the 8800gt in terms of performance.

Yeah, you should see a nice increase in FPS with the 4870.
