I think the iPad Discussion forum group should be placed next to the iPodTouch and iPhone forums and renamed just iPad and that page level be called iPhone, iPodTouch and iPad .
They all use the iphone OS and are arguably related by software and hardware plus the Apps store. Anyone who can't see that they are a family group is denying reality and being illogical.
I see no reason for the iPad forum to be stuck by itself under hardware anymore. When the forum group was first created there was some doubt as to whether it would run the full Mac OSX or the mobile iPhone OS or even what processor it would use. We now know where it fits. Just asking for a little consistency here.
:apple:

It makes a difference to me. Logically it belongs where WLS suggests due to the iPhone OS and App Store connections. Seems out of place with OS X hardware.

I think a case can be made for either place really
Which is why I don't feel like it really makes much difference, as long as it has its own Forum

I think once the iPad is in people's hands it will find it's way to the proper place. Whatever the admins consider that to be.

Well I hope so. It belongs as I indicated to put it anywhere else is well just illogical.
:p

I'm just going out on a limb here and assuming macrumors has been too busy with other things and just hasn't gotten to changing the forums around yet. Let me also assume, this would be done by April 3.

I agree with everyone else though. The iPad forum needs to be situated just like the iPhone or iPod Touch forums on the front page on the right side.

There is no argument to have it any other way. Regardless of what OS it runs or whatever else you can try to come with.

The iPad Discussion forum has been moved from the "Apple Hardware" section to the newly-renamed "iPhone, iPod touch and iPad Forums" section. Thanks for the suggestion!

Edit: We've also added an iPad Launch Meetups subforum for those interested in getting together on launch day.

There seems to be a fair bit of faulty logic in this thread whose subject is intended to be correcting illogical organization (and the denial of reality itself!).

The current main headings in the MacRumors forums are:

  • News and Article Discussion
  • iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad Forums
  • Apple Hardware
  • Apple Software
  • Special Interests
  • Mac Community

To be truly logical, the 3rd and 4th categories should be renamed "Macintosh Hardware" and "Macintosh Software", since the new media devices are in fact still examples of Apple hardware.

Additionally, the Apple Hardware category also currently contains the subcategory of "iPod and iTunes Discussion" which seems a closer fit to the "iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad Forums" heading.

The "Apple TV and Home Theater" subcategory is also currently listed under the "Apple Hardware" category (though of course, Apple TV is a perennial odd fit wherever it tries to find a home ;) ).

Personally, I suggest that the MacRumors forums' main categories would most logically be changed to:

  • News and Article Discussion
  • iPhone, iPod and iPad Forums
  • Mac Hardware
  • Mac Software
  • Special Interests
  • Apple Community

The front page should be like this also, there is way to much information on the main page to be able to read.

I'd condense it down to:

News article discussion
Buying tips
Hardware
Software
iPhone/iPad/iPod
Gaming
Web Development & Programming
Digital Photography & Video
Design & Graphics
Other Misc. Topics & Community
Site Comments

While some of these are merged, the lack of extra headings could allow 8-12 topics to be displayed instead of two sets of six, which an extra heading/spacing.

Cleaner site and some cross-collaboration among like-topics!
