Based on a suggestion by user joro, we have increased the bytesize limit for avatars by 50%, effective immediately.
Avatars, the pictures next to posts, reflect forum participation. They are available to users with 500 or more posts in counted forums (user title "macrumors 6502a" or above). Any registered user can have a Profile Picture that appears on their user profile page. Users who support MacRumors by buying a paid membership are rewarded with suppression of front page ads, access to the private forum, and a special user title, but must still have 500 posts to use an avatar.
From the FAQ:
You'll find a helpful discussion of avatars in the GUIDE/FAQ: Hay guys, how do I get an avatar? thread.
User who do not want to see any avatars when displaying forum pages can uncheck Show Avatars in their User Options.
Old limit: 20000 bytes (19.5KB)

From the FAQ:
Once you reach 500 posts, you may not immediately be able to upload an avatar. The privilege is added automatically when the forum system does routine processing, so check again in a few hours. The delay is normal, so please do not contact us to report it as a problem on the same day that you reach 500 posts.
