And it took him 2.5 days, start to finish. Kid's got mad skills. It's not completely clear, though, whether this will jailbreak 3.1.3+.

No, the 3.1.3 part isn't known.

But I suspect he has had this for a while. Remember when he "inferred" his IPT3 had an untethered jailbreak quite some time ago.

I hope he doesn't release it until the new iPhone comes out, that way he can use the same exploit to JB the new one.
I feel sorry for the dude who just produced all those dongle's for the new bootrom.

Love the song in the back. "I got a big Ego" :D
lol
Like said above I hope he keeps it for when it counts.
3.1.3 is worthless compared to 4.0 for example.
Also if the new Iboot has been hacked does this mean that Apple will start flashing new ROM's in the bootloaders of new 3GS models or save it for the new iphone?
Lets see how it goes :)
And the game goes on.....

That's the thing. Geohot hasn't said that he's hacked the new iBoot. In fact, he implied in a twitter response to MuscleNerd a while back that this hack wasn't an iBoot exploit. I'm paraphrasing from memory, but the exchange went something like...

MuscleNerd: @geohot if you had an iBoot exploit you'd release it if your golf analogy is true.

Geohot: @musclenerd I didn't say I had an iBoot exploit. You'll see what I have when I release it.

i'm excited. this tethered crap is annoying.....i'm always terrified to go anywhere without a charger.....and i'm always paranoid that when i DO have to restart my phone, it'll "auto-upgrade" to 3.1.3 in itunes.....even though i have it set to NOT auto-update.

Interesting.
So I thought because of the new bootloader newer 3GS models got stuck with a tethered JB. So you're saying it wont matter what the bootloader is and can be bypassed thru a different way without needing a tethered JB?
Thanks for the info again.

This is actually one exploit I won't be sorry to see Apple close. An exploit that allows a malicious website to jailbreak my iPhone without my knowledge and gives it access to my entire file system is just not cool.

I think his exploit is different from the one that was demonstrated at the recent contest that you are referring too, no. ?

If thelatinist is referring to the Safari weakness, then I agree.

I'm sorry, this response was supposed to be in the thread about the Mobile Safari exploit. That's what happens when you have too many tabs open.

Of course I don't want Geohot's exploit patched, provided that it requires physical access to the phone. But I don't care if it could be used to jailbreak, I think that security hole in MobileSafari is too dangerous.
