I placed a reservation for an ipad tomorrow. I don't know if I should buy it though.

- 23 years old - just graduated college. Current annual salary: $35k-$45
- I don't like to spend money generally (I save money and live at home)
- I own an iPod touch so not thrilled about touchscreen as much anymore
- Current computer - Powerbook G4 Aluminum
- Do not have iphone/ATT
- I care a lot what people think about me.

Is the iPad for me???

Thanks!

Well, your age and income mean nothing as far as if the iPad is for you.

Ask yourself:

1. What would you do with it?

2. Does it make your life more enjoyable (job easier, entertainment time better, etc)?

If you can see yourself using it and it makes your life more enjoyable and you have the extra cash, there you go. If not, nope.

Stay there for 16 months then leave for a better opportunity.

Move out. It's time ;)

If you use your iPod Touch more than 3 times a week, you're still in the game.

No problem at all. Glad to see the G4 still working for ya!

This WILL change in time :)

If your asking this question, I would say the answer is No. Do not buy it but rather wait. Wait to see it in person - hold it at the Apple store and use it. Then re-evaluate.

You win $35-$45,000 per year:eek:

C'mon dude!

The iPad is like nothing for that salary.

A car.......that's something else.

I'm using my financial aid money from school to buy an iPad!

I don't get the 'should I buy it?' threads. This kind of thing just seems like something you shouldn't crowd-source.

I have kids your age and if you are paying reasonable rent, I wouldn't care what you bought. But, if you aren't paying room and board, I would say "Give the $600 to your folks."

Like someone else already said...if you have to ask, then the answer is no. Why spend $500+ on a device that you are sort of "meh" about?

Powerbook? Dude, save and get a new Macbook Pro. Like many have said, it's just a big iPod touch...and from the looks of it, you don't look like an early adopter. :)

Forget about the iPad, we should be focusing on why you live at home.

I also like how kids here see "I make 45k/year" and they think "ZOMG U ARE RICH AND CULD HAVE SOOO MANY IPAD'S".

Now get off my lawn.

Stop being cheap money comes and it goes. You don't have kids or your own place you make decent money for one person. buy the ipad and imac and macbook pro and an hdtv. and you still are going to be fine. money wise

Yeah, I take back my previous statement. Don't buy anything and give the money to your parents.

Come on. You earn $35K a year and you can't spare the money for the most revolutionary device since 1984?

I'm sure you can spare 500 bucks by just saving up for a few weeks, and an iPad will serve you in the many years to come.

Yeah I suppose I can afford one especially after I get my quarterly bonus. And especially after I realize my gains from stocks. But maybe not since I have to pay income tax on those gains, and I'm still paying off my new Prius...

Listen to this guy.

Save that money and move out. 35-45k is going to feel like pennies once you move out. You're going to need every dime you can get.
