I am finally buying my first macbook pro and I need to get a case for it. Does anyone have some good suggestions? Want to find it for less than $40 please:).

People here love Booq bags. I'm looking at the http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/images/B001MB3OFY/"]be.ez LA robe (Black/Wasabi) sleeve ($30). Hope someone has some feedback.

Waterfield sleevecase. Made in the USA. Very high quality and decent price. Custom made for the notebook too. Sfbags.com

I bought one of the incase cases from the apple store for my new 13". Havnt got my new mbp yet, but the cases quality feels excellent :). Though I cant say if there are any issues with it yet until i test it with the laptop.

It was quite expensive tho at around $50-55 AUD, i was too lazy to look around and just got it from the apple store.

Don't get the Incase, it at best protects against scratches.

Check out the Tom Bihn Brain Cell or the Tech21 ImpactWrap.

Oh and don't buy booq, they have one of the worst warranties around.

The Tom Bihn Brain Cell at $60 is overpriced and looks fussy. The Tech21 is a much better-looking solution for 17-inchers, but the 13- and 15.4-inch models must fit in the same bag, so I'm not sure this is the ideal fit either, at least for the 13-inch MBPs.

Based on Amazon.com feedback, it looks like the be.ez, Belkin and Incase sleeves all suffer from being too loose for the 15.4-inch MBPs.

At this point, at least based on visual inspection, the WaterField Designs Laptop SleeveCase may well be the best choice, but be prepared to spend $20 on overnight shipping if you're not near the SF Bay Area.

Umm, have you picked up a Tom Bihn Brain Cell?

Hmm now I'm concerned. I just ordered an incase sleeve with my new MCB. I'm gonna put it in a bag anyway, but is it really not that good?
It's just protects against scratches, zero protection for drops.

The sleevecases from sfbags.com are fantastic. Sizes are perfect, customizable in several ways, and excellent durability/protection. Some will think they are expensive but given the cost of the machine you are protecting I think they are a good investment. Have had one for my MBA for a few years and it still looks brand new. Wouldn't hesitate to buy another one in the future.

If you're going with a thin sleeve, look at the Tucano Second Skin.

But, ugh! I sure don't like the new logos they are putting on them, advertising "MacBook inside, steal me!"

Mine doesn't have that.

OK, well, it does say "microfiber folder for macbook 13.3". But at least it's in smaller letters.

It has a nice suide-like feel. It's not slipping out of your hand easily.

No but I just got my Waterfield Laptop Sleevecase and it's great! I will take some pix soon.

These things (your Waterfield being great and the Tom Bihn being bad/overpriced) don't seem mutually exclusive.

The Waterfield is better then most, but few come close to Tom Bihn level of protection. (This comes from someone that has owned both)

I am hoping to order my 13" next week and have realized that it may be small enough and light enough to replace my netbook entirely, if I get sufficiently portable bag. I found a bag that's similar to what I use for my netbook now, but large enough for the 13". Anybody have any thoughts?

I've owned three STM bags, can't say enough good things about any of them.

Not had much fun trying to find a good level of protection for the 13". After a few false starts I tried a couple of booq cases (inc Taipan M) and was not happy at all. However, they have just sent me this as it is semi-rigid on the outside:

VYPER XS3
FITS 13" MACBOOK AND MACBOOK PRO
MAX LAPTOP SIZE 13"X9.12"X1.08" (330X232X27MM)
EXTERIOR 13.5X9.62X1.58 (343X244X40MM)

It is very good indeed.

Pros:

Very robust
Very good fit
Good attention to detail
Good grip

Cons:

It's pretty thick, even when empty
