I have an i5 2.4 15" MBP on order and want to know if Crucial 8GB 2x4gb package for the 2009 MBP work on the new MBPs, here are crucial's specs:

  • Module Size: 8GB Kit (4GBx2)
  • Package: 204-pin SODIMM
  • Feature: DDR3 PC3-8500
  • Specs: DDR3 PC3-8500 • CL=7 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1066 • 1.5V • 512Meg x 64
looks like it should work, want to put this in once i get the new laptop.

The Crucial 8GB kit price is steep, though.

OWC: $376 minus $60 trade-in of Apple 4GB Kit = $316
TransIntl: $348
Apple CTO: $400
NewEgg: $471
Crucial: $500

I wouldn't sell or trade the original RAM as if you have to send it to Apple, they may blame the 3rd party RAM to be the issue and refuse to fix it or they may replace it with original RAM meaning that you lose your 8GB.

NewEgg sells good RAM for okay price

Thanks for the heads up. I, too, have 8gb of RAM arriving today and was going to sell my original 4gb for $100 but am now going to keep it in case I need it for warranty purposes.

I was looking for cheap and good ram (2x4gb) in the UK. Owc and newegg are only USA shipping. Any UK options out there which are good?
