I recently got an MBP 5,1 late 2008 (2.4gHz C2D) with 2GB of memory, read about the firmware and SMC update scenarios for 8GB memory compatibility, purchased two Corsair 4GB sticks for $36.99 and swapped them out.

The machine sees the memory just fine, and everything is zippy. YAY! Should I simply assume that all is good unless I have problems down the road, or would you do some formal memory testing if this were your machine?

Part of me thinks I should have bought it at OWC because they specifically test and guarantee the RAM for this particular model, but the Corsair was over $20 cheaper. I'm still new to Apple-world. Are Macbook Pros generally fussy about memory brands? Or does any brand that matches in terms of specs typically work?
