8GB RAM in the 15"... status update?

So, anyone here know anything about a possible update for the 15" to support past 6GB RAM, or has anyone managed to get 8 to work reliably yet? The price seems to finally be coming down to earth, so hopefully someone can tear through the firmware on the 17" and figure this out if Apple doesn't officially sanction it.

The firmware isn't something you can copy from one system model to another. As far as I know, 6GB is still the max (actually 7GB but you don't have a 3GB stick nor will there be any) available for the 15" models. I'd wait until Snow Leopard to come out to see if it'll support 8GB. Until then, 6GB is what you can expect.

The theory I think might work is booting a 15" off a 17" hard drive.

I don't think it's in the firmware
