The 8GB RAM upgrade (from 4GB) is only $600 now. Wasn't it $1000 before or did this change happen a while ago and I just missed it?

It must have just happened within the last few days because I recall checking over a week ago and it was still $1,000.00. Good catch.

I'm sure it has to do with the 27" iMac costing $1,400.00 for 16 GB.

I feel the same way. Last week on configured a 15" Pro and remember the 8GB upgrade costing $1000. The price drop must have gotten lost with all of the other announcements.

nice to see ram prices dropping .. i remember 6 months ago when i got my laptop .. the price for 8gb from macsales was 800 .. now newegg is at 399 ..
i always wanted 8gb of ram in my laptop but i doubt ill ever need it

Good news

Good to hear that there is only a $200 difference now.

It's also great that Apple is selling their 256GB SSD upgrade for the same price as Newegg

Might as well do it yourself and save yourself $200, not to mention you get to keep your 4GB of ram and do whatever you want with it

That is what I want to do as well. Hope to wait out until summer '10 and hope it drops another $100-150 or so by then. Then I can throw the 4GB from my MBP into my iMac and have both running at 8GB. Probably don't need that much RAM at this point, but sure will be nice to have.

Give it 10-12 months and 8GB of ram will be $100 - $150 on Newegg. And a 256 SSD will be $150-$200 or less. You just have to be patient.

Both of these are still in the "early adopter" phase. The prices will drop by 40% or more within 12-14 months of their initial release, just like those 10,000RPM raptor drives did.

When the 10,000RPM 36GB Raptor drive was released it was like $350. Now you can get a 300GB 10,000RPM Raptor for $150.

Is the 4gb that comes standard 2 x 2gb, or is it a single 4gb stick? And will RAM that is compatible by all other measures work in an MBP even if it's not labeled "Mac Memory" on Newegg?

by that time my mbp will be dated lol .. then it comes down to whether the upgrades are worth it or is it better to just buy a newer one

Depends on your needs. I've just ordered a MattBook Pro 15" 4GB base line model. In one year I'll upgrade to 8GB and install a SDD and I think I'll see a major boost in performance. Gaming and GPU intensive applications are another story, but then who buys a notebook for serious gaming? :)

yea i guess .. i doubt i need a quadcore laptop .. all i do is some school work on here and i am buying a mac pro at the next update ... so anything serious i can do on that .. and still have my pc to game on. Its just hard not to want when you read these forums and people are selling there 4 month old mbp for the next one. When the price comes down a bit more ill upgrade to 8gb and also pick up an ssd. I was pricing out my laptop on that site .. and i think my value has gone down like 1000 dollars in the 6 months ive had it lol
