8x dvd-r's showing up as 2x

i just bought a spindle of maxell 8x dvd-r's and toast is only recognizing them as 2x. has anyone had this problem before and know how to fix it?

i called maxell and they offered to replace them, but i'm not sure that will do any good. any advice?

computer details are in my sig, it's the newest model 17" powerbook with the 8x DL superdrive

some dvds are lame, just try to stay away from that brand in the future.

i have some dvds that show up as 4x on my g5, but 8x on my powerbook.

I know for my Powerbook I have to buy expensive media to get it to burn at the advertised rate. The cheap CD-R's won't even burn.. I have to buy Verbatims.
