9600M overclock settings in bootcamp. Who's done it and who has recommendations?

I searched, but didn't find anything too specific on here. Can anyone recommend some good overclock values for my 9600m in bootcamp using nvidia tools? Basically, I'm looking for a stable profile or some recommended settings you've been using to overclock your 9600 in bootcamp. Maybe upload a screenshot like the one below with your custom adjusted settings for memory, core, and shader clocks. I'd rather not play around with it if someone has found a fast/safe setting that increases performance.

I do it, and I use RivaTuner because nTune doesn't run on Windows 7 64-bit. I downloaded a WHQL 182.XXX versions archived driver from the NVIDIA website, and then went to the "High Performance 3D" tab and maxed out all of the settings. Apple keeps the card ridiculously underclocked, but you can change that. My Windows Experience Index rated my graphics card as a 6.9. The temperatures are stable at 85 celsius, but most of the heat seems to come out of the CPU, especially when playing a game like Crysis.
 
Can you post your clock speeds that you're using? I have win 7 too. It's a shame about the lack of ntune automatic settings.
 
Funny, I actually got into this today. Hopefully people can share what they have too. Messed around with some settings today via nVidia's 6.06 Tool software and was able to bump the speeds from:
Stock(underclocked mac settings) OC
Core 500 640
Mem 1250 1480
Shader 792 900

I own a C2D Unibody MBP @ 2.8 and was also able to OC it to around 3.15+ Ghz with ease, without noticeable overheating. This is via x64 7 bootcamp.

Processor speed/ graphics via windows experience index went up from 6.4 to 6.6.

Just cause 2 and MW2 are running noticeable faster now, mw2 maxed out @ 1440x900 and can play JC2 at 1440x900 @ Med/High Textures. Satisfied. Wonder what you can do with the 330M, but it doesnt seem to be that big of an upgrade?

EDIT: @woot, please post yor info too im wondering what settings couldve brought your windows index that high.
 
I had to install a newer Nnidia mobile driver (197.16) and Nvidia System Tools 6.06 to overclock my Dec '09 unibody as nothing else would work - tried Rivatuner etc. Overclocked the 2.66GHz C2D by setting CPU FSB clock to 311, so running at about 3.1GHz. Set 9600 core/mem/shader to 625/800/1550 which is the same as 9700 stock figures. Stable and not too hot at those speeds and runs BFBC2/MW2/Crysis very smoothly. The GPU can be pushed a *lot* harder but I got the white screen of death with BFBC2 at higher clock speeds...

Get a 6966 3DMark score with this setup.

Some people have tried using laptopvideo2go's latest desktop drivers, which is even newer than my 197.45 notebook driver.

I wonder if i can bring my cpu to 3.4 =]


(I have my smcfancontrol in osx set to 6k rpm before i reboot so these settings stay)
 
My CPU adjustments dosent take effect on my mid 09 13". Im' able to test and apply the setting, but nothing changes.

The GPU clocks just fine.
 
Glad to hear people are having good success with this. I'll try some of the settings listed in this thread. It seems that as long as the gpu isn't overheating, you can run these oc's settings for hours of gaming on end. Can you all approximate what kind of fps boosts you're getting? I run at 1680x1050 on an external monitor, and usually I can run newer games at medium settings with 2xAA with no problem. Do you think OC'ing a bit would let me bump up the texture quality to high perhaps?

Have any of you monitored your gpu temperature over extended sessions. I imagine anything under 95C or so would be perfectly fine for years to come!
 
my C2D cpu seems stable from 2.8 to 3.265 (10.5x 311 i think) but it seems to get fishy after there. Anyone know what the 1066mhz ddr3 limit is to overclock this cpu?

Also, I have my 9600m gt pushed to 720/1025/1720 but when i look over the settings it seems as if the gpu doesnt get clocked that high even when in use, any help? I know the c2d and the nvidia cards normally downclock when not in use, but the sensors in gpu z as well as nvidia system monitor dont show the proper mhz jumps.

What benchmarking products do you guys reccomend? I'm using furmark as of now. Thanks.

That's a pretty high gpu overclock! What kind of temperatures are you seeing for your gpu?

Awesome. do you use a fan control utility. The mac smc fan control for bootcamp usually shoots fans up to 6000rpm anyways as soon as you play a game in windows. So I really doubt having an additional fan control is really necessary. I'll monitor temps with speedfan to be sure. 80C is nothing!
 
What benchmarks are you guys using to test for stability? And if possible, anyone care to share their cpu/ gpu overclocks?

insane overclock. did you redo thermal paste job ?

temperatures ?
 
Apparently some settings only work for certain benchmarks and games. Im running it at 2.8@3.2 and the 9600 at 700/900/1600 while playing battlefield bc2 with no problems.. but after playing some just cause 2 for 30+ i get the black screen
 
After much tweaking and testing I have my 2.66@3.06 and 9600 at 690/1070/1620 and it's completely stable. BFBC2 and MW2 run at 1440x900 very smoothly (50/60fps+) albeit with BFBC2 detail on low. 3DMark is around 7700 with these settings.
 
I tried running at 720/1720/1025. That immediately hosed my gpu and I got all sorts of green/red/blue static on my screen. So I had to reset everything back to default settings. I doubt you can get the gpu that high without some seriously strong additional cooling.
 
In the end, extremely worth it with a minimal increase in heat.. the oc'd 9600m gt chews up mw2 at max settings, and before i was only able to run bc2 at low/med settings in native resolution, while now i have it at all high (noAA). Personally, I'd hate to game at anything under 1440x900.

Anyone gonna try some thermal paste on the unibody's with good results? So tempting... but may be overkill

Weird. I wonder why I get graphical glitches with these high gpu overclock settings, but yours is stable. :confused:
 
I also realized that the cpu/ gpu are so close to one another inside the board that they affect each other in terms of heat. So, technically cpu overclocking isnt too necessary so just start with the gpu. Id put mem at 1400mhz first and bump the core to 640, which you should be able to do fairly easily. from then, keep everything the same but SLOWLY push the core up and see what happens. Mem can eventually be pushed to about 1450-1550 (even 1600) but the core is most impt. The thing is, a higher gpu overclock bounces heat over to the cpu, which usually heats up FASTER than the gpu. With the gpu, I usually see artifacts with too high of clocks BEFORE gpu physically goes out, which requires a restart. Even at stock speed the cpu can shoot up to 95C easily, when multiple cores are beings used in cpu intensive games. GPU rarely hits 90-92C, which is fine.. even at overclocked speeds. The core2duos tend to downclock themselves when running in excessive heat for a while so watch out for that.
 
Any idea why I can't get my overclock profiles to load at startup? Everytime I change my gpu setting in the performance section of the nvidia contorl panel, it asks me if I want to run these new settings when I startup windows. I always select "yes", but when I restart, it always reverts back to the factory settings. Any help?

Just use ntune for xp works fine for 7 64bit I've done it myself :p
 
Can you fry your chips? Especially with the insanely high temperatures coming with summer?
