I'm considering purchasing a 13" MacBook Pro and connecting it to a large, external monitor, but don't know exactly what monitor/cables to get. What are some of the best external monitors for the MacBook Pro besides the $900 Cinema Display?

D. More info needed.

Budget
usage (I.e gaming, image editing)
Connectivity Needs (only MBP or game consoles and other devices)
Etc

I was recently looking into this and the ones I'm considering are the Dell 2209WA and the Samsung Syncmaster series.

You can restrict your choice to either 2560x1600 or 2560x1440 models with DisplayPort input (30" and 27" respectively with high quality IPS panels only)

I'm sorry, I might change the question a little bit: I'm considering an HDTV with HDMI ports (good idea?) in case I'd like to watch television as well.

Should I follow these general guidelines, except find a mini DisplayPort to HDMI adaptor?
