Hi Everyone,

So basically i am volunteer to design and "coding" (I'm not an advanced web developer!) a website but I would like other people (users without coding knowledge) are able to input content and update.

The website will have:
- a home page describing the activity's organization and a section of latest news
- a news page (text and images)
- a gallery of pictures
- documentations (text, MS word, MS PPT, PDF)
- a contact page
- a links page to other websites/blog

I heard it was possible to use WordPress or Drupal (which they are not lightweight !).

My current thinking is a combination of Dreamweaver/RapidWeaver with SnippetMaster http://www.snippetmaster.com/index.php

Any advice ?

Thanks!

ps. My development platform is Leopard 10.5

Use Wordpress or similar things and use caching.

For lightweight sites use HTML.

How many page views per day?

Wordpress would still work for a basic site. It can be slimmed down (well, options can be removed from sight) using various plugins.

For a small scale cms I used to recommend CMS from Scratch, but development for that has dwindled and support has diminished.

You could take a look at something simple like a hosted service - cushy CMS for example.

if they are a non-profit I would advise you to use a platform that is widely implemented - wordpress / drupal, etc... turnover (both in volunteers, contractors and employees) is high, and if you create something that is non-standard/unfamiliar or requires specific software or licensing you are creating a lot more work for the organization.

Thanks for the suggestion, CMS from Scratch looks like a great solution.
Do you know any website developed using CMS from Scratch ?
I'm looking a couple of website as example.

Thanks

Sure... My site (apart from the blog which is driven by WordPress) has CMSfS under the hood. There are also these that I know of:

http://www.thebridal-outlet.com/ < made by me several years ago.
http://www.artanails.com/
http://www.ecoprintuk.com/
http://www.midasprosound.com/
http://wisdomfinancialinc.com/ < made by Web Design from Scratch, the guys that made the CMS.

In it's current incarnation CMSfS isn't the most stable of options and support in the forum has dropped significantly, so I find it hard to recommend it unless you have solid coding ability or feel like chasing down solutions to the many bugs in the latest release.

Early versions are still good to use though.

Hope that helps!

/Doug

I came across simpleCMS which is a hosted based (like cushyCMS) but you have the option to brand it (to look more professional).

Now a question; Why I can't get it to work?

I tried using cushy (class name) and it worked fine. Now with simpleCMS, I tried class name, the comments tag and nothing happens in the editor. Any help please?
