Refurbished MBP or New?

Hi, I was browsing Apple's refurbished selection and found that the lowest lever 13" mbp are available.

I was planning to purchase a new one with the edu discount but now, I need some help deciding between the refurbished and new.

Before you instantly say get the New, i must add that I already have an ipod touch, getting the back to school sale would me me upgrading to a 32gb model and selling my current 8gb.

so

Refurbished(1019+100)1.06=1196.14-100=1086.14

New (1099+100+299)1.06=1587.88-199-100-100(estimated resale of my 8gb touch)=1188.88

refurb 15 inch(more costly, but considering it) (1529+100)1.06=1726.74-100=1626.74.


I think that the 13" specs would suffice for my needs but i would like longevity and viability for at least 4-5 years.

Which would you go for?

Do you want a white pretty box or brown box? The item will be the same, or your money back / etc.

Apple's warranty on Refurb is fabulous.

Edit: Some people "need" new. I don't. It's saved me a mint on my 24" ACD.

Actually, i think that sometimes refurbished might be better, because its probably less likely to have those stupid little annoyances new ones have because they undergo another round of QC. However, i always worry that the components used in refurbished isnt as good, so quality in the long run will be worse.


Pretty dumb question, and i am pretty sure i already know the answer but the apple's refurb warranty is 1 year when you buy the refurb correct?
 
The 13" will be fine, and should last you for quite a while, especially with the crazy batteries that they put in those things. The new 13s will last you just as long as a 15, so I don't think that should be the issue between getting the 13 or 15. Just get whichever screen size will suit you (and your wallet) better. The components are the same in the refurb, I think they just get a bad connotation because they aren't new. I'm not entirely certain about the warranty, but I believe it is the 1 year like you said.
 
I just purchased the refurb 15in you mentioned a few days ago. I havnt recieved it yet, but from the research I did, refurbs are just as good as a new one. And yes, you still get the 1 year warranty on refurbs, just like you do when you buy new.

I say go with the refurb, and the 13'' should be fine, unless you reallly want the i5 and a bit bigger screen(like i did lol).
 
refurb basically means you won't get the posh white box but you'll save so much money

I just bought a refurb 15 MBP, I have had no problems and I love it. I also debated over getting the 13 instead of the 15 and I went with the 15 because I liked the bigger screen size and the extra money was well worth it.
 
Same warranty and still eligible for AppleCare just like the new ones.

Why would you spend time worrying about whether components are as good or not? In order for the machine to work, they must be the same components.

There's way better things to worry about. Apple has a quality control system in place that gives you the same warranty as a new product. That should tell you something.

IMO, it could happen to a new machine or used. Just use it and take precautions (eg: back up) like you would with any machine. No need to worry.
 
Are there any good notebook/apple forums out there with classifieds where i could possibly pick up a used one?
