Well it looks like I'm out. AT&T was right, $599 for iPhone.

So I'm one of the people who had the

"You can upgrade for full-retail no commitment pricing. You may be eligible for a discount on 02/20/2011"

When I checked this morning, Apple.com told me $599.

I'll pass thanks but no thanks. $399 would have been doable, but I am having a hard time swallowing $599 for a phone after my original iPhone.

It says I will be early upgrade eligible November 20th 2010. I mind as well wait for iPhone 5.
 
I am eligible, but if I wasn't, the $599 still wouldn't stop me from getting my iPhone June 24th.
 
I don't get it...I thought there was an early upgrade option for $399/$499?

hopefully the store is down to correct this.

I have my 3GS sold to a guy I work with for $200 already. So $400 wouldn't be as bad. Lucky for me, I dont have to pay that much.

I am only going to have to pay $18 an I will have my new iPhone. Very good deal.
 
I place a reservation for Apple in-store anyway....

If they can't sell it to me for $399 I could always walk away.
 
wow that really sucks guys. You had me disappointed for a second, but i just tried mine on apple.com and it worked out fine. Perhaps try again?
 
The phones at AT&T.com show as the correct $399/$499 for those eligible for early upgrades. I can't get on the Apple online store to check how it works there.
 
Re-checking is a waste of time, there are no errors in the online process. You either qualify or you don't.

Try not to take it so seriously, it's only a phone. Be patient, enjoy the phone you have until you are eligible for the $199 price. To pay anything more is crazy.

The way technology moves at such a fast pace, you will be ready for the "next great iPhone"... :)
 
I guess theoretically we could eat the ETF: $175 + $199/$299 and it'd be cheaper than $599/$699?

I think they may have grace periods before you can sign up again, or some other pitfall to stop people from doing that, such as deposits.

The ETF is $325.

Unfortunately we all have Verizon to thank for increasing the ETF to $350.

They set the new standard months ago, and AT&T has just followed. The $175 ETF is now a thing of the past.

Only those who have _maintained_ their contract retain the $175. Once they cancel, they are out.

We're talking about adding a new line, not canceling and then re-signing up. So grace periods are irrelevant in this case. As far as I know, there are no deposits for adding a new line to an existing account.

What I meant was - eat the ETF of $175 for the 3GS that I have and then buy the iPhone 4.

But if that means losing my number, forget it.

If you get any subsidy at all on an iPhone 4, it's a new contract. Or did they change that?
 
Yeah I thought about the new line route too, but then I won't be eligible next year. I mind as well wait. I've had every iPhone since day 1. And if I didn't get a 64GB iPad this year, I might have splurged and paid $599. But lots of long stories, and I can't spend $599 on an iPhone at this current moment.

So, if you want to be eligible next year, you kinda have to pay the $599 this year. So I mind as well wait.

Also, my wife is getting one, so I'll still be able to play around w/ the new features and what not.

AT&T can & will charge a deposit for adding a line. Adding a line requires a credit check.
