After the 10.6.4 Upgrade My Macbook Runs Way Hotter

Before the upgrade, my Macbook 5,1 used to run at 50ºC (122 ºF). It now runs at 65-70 ºC (149-158 ºF) with only safari (and no flash) running. Activity Monitor shows no process is using more than 10% of CPU when idle. Is there any reason for it to be running this hot?

Thanks for your suggestion.

I checked to see if a plugin was causing the problem, but the only plugin i have installed is click to flash.

Even with no apps running the temperature is 70 degrees. I only noticed the increase when last night I upgraded to 10.6.4. Last week (?), when I upgraded to Safari 5, there was no noticeable change, other than the changes to safari.

No increase in temp on my i7 MBP. Safari 5 runs much faster in 10.6.4 IMO. Reset your PRAM and see if it helps. I always reset PRAM after a OS update.:apple:
 
I'm having issues. When all I have running is Chrome, iTunes, and Skype, the fans usually never go past 1997rpm. Now with the update, they are 2400+.
 
Same here on a 17" MBP 5.2.
Used to have fans running at 2000RPM, 60°C under normal load.
Now I'm seeing fans at 2400RPM, 70-75°C under similar conditions.
Nothing peculiar in Activity Monitor. I'm confused.

Glad to see I'm not the only one with fan problems. I just played TF2 and the fans were at at 5900 RPM. I don't think they ever even hit 5200 before...

Thank you very much! Reseting the PRAM fixed the issue, at least momentarily. The temperature has gone down to a more normal 45 degrees Celsius.
 
My MBP's temperatures and fan speeds also appear to have returned to normal.
When checking Activity Monitor I noticed that somehow the 10.6.4 update had forced the MBP to default back to the 32-bit kernel. Been using a System Preferences plugin called 'SixtyFourSwitcher' to boot into the 64-bit kernel instead, but upon opening System Preferences I saw that it had indeed been set back to 32-bit. I changed it back, rebooted and temps were back to normal.
Still did the PRAM reset mentioned above just in case. :)
 
PRAM Reset saved my mac

After the upgrade to 10.6.4 my mac was running at 3000rpm speed and 80˚C!!!

Thanks to this forum i tried the PRAM Reset:

And now its back to Normal again!

Question i do have is, what is stored in PRAM/NVRAM which makes the MAC run hotter than before the update?? Very strange to me...
But i'm glad that there IS at least a fix!

My CPU is also running hotter with no app using more than ~5% of the CPU. I have already reset my PRAM, and the problem persists. I'll try again, and if that still doesn't work, I'll reset the SMC.

I'm running a MacBook [2,1], by the way. And another PRAM reset didn't work...

Ok, the SMC didn't work, either. Looks like I'm stuck with a computer that's gonna run hotter than it should... What a load of crap.
 
If the pram reset didn't work try resetting smc also. Whenever the temperature spikes on my macbook for no apparent reason i reset both the smc and the pram and it seems to fix it one way or another...
