Plastic bottom has no grip

The round plastic bottom doesn't grip the surface on which the mini is resting. It just moves with the slightest push. The rubbery bottom of the previous models was a lot more stable. Is there any way to fix this without sticking rubber feet on the thing?

I was worried about this from the screenshots. Are you confirming this first hand or also guessing based on the screenshots? If this is true that would be a major oversight on Apple's part especially since the previous version had a grippy rubber bottom.

It's true. I examined one in the Apple Store today and it has no rubber grip on the bottom. It moves around on any surface very easily.
 
Don't have to put huge rubber feet on, some of the thin 1 mm rubber sheets might also work.

X-acto a several 1/2" long curved feet.

Yup, I'm confirming it first hand. Just picked one up today.
 
you can get little rubber or cork feet from the hardware store.
i mean its a dumb design if its nto rubbery but i youc an buy some feet, the cork ones are only like 1-2mm thick
 
I don't like this at all as my computer desk is quite high. I use a bar stool as my chair since I am chained to my desk all day long and don't like sitting for too long.

I like how my wife's 2009 Mini grips the surface of her desk but if the new 2010 slips and slides around that isn't very reassuring. I can't believe Apple would miss this in their design. Perhaps the 2010 Fall or 2011 Spring edition will see this change.

No, it doesn't seem to slide when you put in a disc with one hand. But only as long as your hand doesn't make contact with the machine at all. If your hand hits the machine at all during the process of inserting the disc, it does slide back.
 
I just saw the display model at the Bic Camera by my office (here in Tokyo). I tried sliding it around and was quite dismayed to see how "slidey" it is. This is a sadly a very poor design oversight on Apple's part.
 
Yes, it's true. You could expect more for that amount of money.
But, hey, no-one would ever see rubber-pads you added yourself. Plus, those additional millimeters might improve cooling airflow.
 
Get some of that rubber mesh grip material. I use it to stop light equipment with stiff cables, such as a cable modem, from moving around. It comes in rolls and is fairly inexpensive. It's available at hardware, and even grocery stores.
 
Something I don't understand - Design flaw?

We all know the old Mini had this gray rubber bottom for traction just like all Apple docks and it works great however this is not the case on the new Mini!
Why did Apple make that black bottom without any traction rubber or something? It's just plastic, and it slides like a mother!

Just wondering as if you have made a guess then you may be barking up the wrong tree.... aren't the big black feet on each side rubber???

Macs do not have design flaws. It's your slippery desk that has a design flaw. Apologise to Steve at once, and buy the new iPhone.


I'm beginning to fit in, around here...
 
Wouldn't be too surprised if somebody didn't offer a 1.5mm thick foam rubber foot for the Mini with 2 holes cut out.

The offer free samples of these big enough to put a single circular foam rubber foot on the mini.

Feet? Those are indentations. This is where you 'grip' to rotate the disc to access the internals.
 
With the SD Card slot incorporated now, perhaps they wanted to make it easier to adjust/turn the unit to have access to the slot?
 
no rubber feet necessary i just took the measurements of the new mini and it fits like it is straight into the bottom of a iMac g3 , hurray well done apple the old mac mini was slightly to high to fit in there :confused:
