My 15" i7 MBP has exhibited an annoying metallic creaking sound sometimes when light pressure is placed on the handrest. It's been mainly after it's been on a while and warmed up. I took the back off a few times and couldn't identify the source, but just unscrewing and re-screwing the back fixed it for a while.

Today I found the cause, if you take the back off then in the middle there's a little metallic thing that sticks up and gets pushed down on a spring when the case is on. Maybe it's a sensor to show it the case is attached...?

Anyway, the metallic creak was caused by that scraping very slightly against the aluminum casing. Putting a but if selotape on the back case at the point where it touches has fixed it.

The noise sounded like this but a bit less severe for me:
