Video here!

--------------------------------------------
Hello, MR members. I'm working on making iMovie run on iPhone 3GS. I will chart my progress as I go along. Be sure to chip in any thoughts or suggestions! Here we go..

----- Take 1 -----

*Bought iMovie for iPhone 4
//iMovie.app weighs in at just 36.1 MB
*Successfully downgraded from iOS 4 to iOS 3.1.3
*Jailbroke iOS 3.1.3 using Spirit
*Changed SystemVersion.plist to iOS 4.0
//iTunes no longer gives me an error when installing iMovie. Still doesn't install it.
*Gave read & write permission to iMovie.sinf in SC_info folder inside iMovie.app.
*Modified Info.plist to disable requirements for a front facing camera and uploaded iMovie.app to /Applications.
//Icon shows up in an un-rendered state on the home screen and crashes upon launch. It's becoming apparent that I need to install it through iTunes.
*Tried to install app sync but since I changed the SystemVersion to 4.0, it gave me the 4.0 mobileinstallation patch causing my iPhone to have to be restored. Give me a sec

----- TAKE 2 -----

*Jailbroke my iPad (much easier to work on) and installed iMovie with App Cake (thanks a lot Nicholas Knight!).
*Switched the system version to 4.0 and added a front-facing video camera boolean to K48AP.plist.
//At this point the application appears on the home screen but crashes upon tapping the icon. I looked at the application crash logs and discovered a few missing frameworks. These can be retrieved using iPhone 4.. we might have to wait for a jailbreak before this project can proceed.
*With a fixed frameworks.. iMovie is fully usable.
//Actually it turns out that it can only export movies in the Medium size. This can be fixed when iPhone 4 is jailbroken and I can get ahold of the new frameworks.

So did you get it running on the 3gs or the ipad? The SS says 3gs. Does it require the a4 to run?

Just a question here.. who would WANT this hack? It takes A LOT of steps to get iMovie just to show up on the phone.

Two things:

1. Half the satisfaction of running a hack is making it work.

2. That is a question that should never be uttered in this forum! We don't ever question hacks in this forum! :p

I have imovie for my girlfriends i4. I have a 3gs JB on 3.1.3. you should make a cydia patch for this so I dont have to do all that lol.

I'd like to know too. I was bummed when I found out it wouldn't run on 3GS. I was really looking forward to it.

If you have jailbroken your 3gs for the dark side, this should be real easy to install:)

Get your butt on installous!

It's not perfect though. You get black edges on the video. The video from the 3GS camera is the wrong size/shape for the 360p export. (Or is that just on mine?)

Maybe there is a way to fix that too.

I modified the .ipa and was using iMovie on my 3GS until my 4 arrived today. It is impressive. Can only export in lowest quality, bit still fun to use and impressive results
