Did you back up your SHSH for 4.0?

Other than answering that with a yes then no idea...I doubt it, but its possible

?
Thanks.

Still encourage you not to update to 4.0.1 however, but if you missed getting a 4.0 SHSH, you can get ones for 4.0.1.

... that literally coming RIGHT AFTER he retweeted what comex said:
**updated** Comex deleted/withdrew this tweet. It's good advice to maybe not upgrade if he removed it from the twitter feed **

Comex said:
<del>I lied. Apparently there is no baseband update for some reason, so feel free to update to 4.0.1 if you're on 4.0</del>

and the last thing MuscleNerd said, though being pretty silent on the issue is :

Obviously avoid today's 4.0.1 update until JB tools are updated. Luckily, no baseband change so ultrasn0w lives on :)

I think it might be a little too soon to tell. The Dev team is split in some ways on it.

It's been pointed out a few times that 4.0.1 doesn't do anything for you, literally, other than an upgraded signal bar formula and graphic. I see no compelling argument against waiting.

Worse case scenario is that the dev team finds something they didn't see the first go around and you are stuck. Waiting is the best option.

Just wait, you aren't missing anything, this is just a bogus cover up from Apple (odd saying that about my employer??). Even if this firmware in no way shape or form hurts your jb ability I would still wait, I've already seen 3 phones today bricked by 4.0.1. so to put it bluntly JUST WAIT.

Have a good day, :)

I smell an Apple genius ...

Glad you are hanging out ! :D

Wow. Bricked?! Really... that's messed up.

I'm already working on a Cydia package to restore the old signal bar graphics anyway. Sorry if I sound like TheSpaz, but the new ones are unsettlingly non-linear.

I don't think they know yet. Apple kind of slammed everybody this time. The devteam has been working on a JB and Unlock for weeks and waiting on 4.0.1. they seed 4.1 to developers last night WITH a baseband update and then release 4.0.1 today WITHOUT a baseband update. So it may take a few days for the dev team to finish up the new JB on 4.0 before even delving into 4.0.1. to see if apple patched anything.

Ya I mean really bricked too, like no response to anything. I tried to put it into DFU mode and nada, I tried Recovery mode and Nada, even our special software that specializes in this stuff (it's on the MacBooks we plug your phones into) couldn't detect it. So I'm staying as far away from this one as possible.

You think the devs will release a JB 4.0 without the pre-condition of having the iphone previously jailbroken? I heard from the redmondpie.com that the unofficial release for the 4.0 JB is out but you have to have the iphone previously jailbroken. Am i still SOL?

Haha you smelled correctly :D

I've been lurking these boards for a good year but just now became a member. :)

Glad you finally came around, and welcome. Very glad to have you here. Let us know if you see any more of the 4.0.1 bricking. That's pretty disturbing to me seeing has how Ive NEVER seen a truly bricked iPhone.

You Apple Genius always did have a funny smell :D (totally kidding)

Anyways, welcome!

If you were JB on 3.1.2, 3.1.1, and I believe 3.0 (might have to correct me on that one) you can use Pwnage Tool (Mac *better tool*) or Sn0wbreeze (PC *didn't like the tool*) and put Iphone into recovery mode and restore to the custom firmware it makes. If you weren't jailbroken on any of those firmwares, then you are SOL, at least until Comex releases. Do you have your SHSH blobs saved from any of those firmwares?

I have several Apple genius "friends" here in Columbus, we all love our jailbroken iDevices.

Welcome aboard.

Edit: Just so there is no confusion, I am not an Apple employee... didn't want to mislead anyone.

I have to say that Redmond Pie has become so full of sensationalist stories lately that I have given up on it as a reliable source - it really wasn't a truly credible source to begin with - they tend to simple regurgitate things.

I would guess, without seeing the source, that they are referring to the 3.1.2/3.1.3 spirit and redsn0w methods of upgrading a 3Gs to 4.0

Thanks for the warm welcome :D

Haha I know the smell you speak of, it's from the cool blue shirts they give us xD

Ya this bricking is something I have NEVER seen before either, 4.0.1 should have been released in 2 more weeks but was rushed, most likely so they have something to say in their defense at tomorrows press conference.

Funny thing is the iPad we use at work to do scheduling is jailbroken :D imagine that, I hope Steve Jobs doesn't come in to inspect the store.

Makes me wonder if 4.0.1 was just a quick cover up and the real update is just around the corner. Maybe a way to make the dev team think it's safe to release?

What are you guys doing with these bricked iPhones?!

Btw, care to comment on how many people have come in w/ the antennae attenuation issue? Your thoughts on it?

Cheers

My iPad went back to Apple, the Wifi would not stay connected and required a manual reconnection each time it disconnected. None of my iPhones have ever had an issue with keeping a Wifi connection, but the iPad was horrible.

I wouldn't go as far as to say it's a cover up, but a revised version of 4.0.1 (4.0.2 anyone?) wouldn't be outlandish, I've already dispatched a tweet to comex regarding this theory, and have plead to him to hold off on the release for at least two weeks (although the jb isn't even done yet).

As far as these bricked iPhones go, when we have a phone, or ipod, or macbook that our technicians can't fix it gets put into a gimonstrous box, and that box goes to Cupertino. Then their specialists look and determine what the problem is, and if they can't fix it they grab the parts that are viable and use those to construct a new iPhone or MacBook, or iPod. (the refurbs we give you when you get a replacement phone).

The antenna issue is 150% real, contrary to my CEO's statements. I have visual proof (video taken of me using my iPhone 4 inside the Apple Store, while applying the "death grip") that backs up all the statements made about the problem. We haven't received any news of an immediate recall, but don't be surprised if we do on Saturday, not Friday, as Friday most likely will be just an (slight) admittance of the problem.

Another product of rushed manufacturing, the problem was in the network chips, the 3G's had the same problem, on a much smaller scale, seeing as they had more manufacturing time.
