iPhone 3GS need help bad Going crazy

I have a new iPhone 3GS I bought from my friend
And I have tmobile and need to know what to use to jailbreak it so I can use it as a phone and not just an expensive iPod please help anyone!!!!!!

Woah, hold on. Lot of bad advice going on here. OP: there is currently no tool which will jailbreak an iPhone 3GS at firmware version 4.0.1. There is a slight possibility that you may be able to download your phone to iOS 3.1.3 or earlier and jailbreak if 1) your friend previously jailbroke the phone and chose the "Make My Life Easier" option in Cydia, or 2) your friend used TinyUmbrella to back up the phone's SHSH (a signature hash required for installing iOS on your phone).

You can check to see whether you can downgrade using the following procedure:

1) Download TinyUmbrella.

2) If you use a Mac, be sure to copy TinyUmbrella from the .dmg to your hard drive or desktop.

3) Run TinyUmbrella.

4) Plug in your iPhone.

5) Click Advanced, then choose "iPhone 3GS 3.1.3 (7E18)" from the Device/Version dropdown menu.

6) Click "Save My SHSH."

If the log file at the bottom of the TinyUmbrella window gives you a message "SHSH SUCCESSFULLY saved," then you will be able to jailbreak your phone; otherwise, you will have to wait for new tools to be released.

Way too many incorrect solutions being posted here lately ! :rolleyes:

These incorrect "guesses" are getting people stuck with updates they cannot get out of and preventing them from jailbreaking in some cases.

None of you would want that to happen to you !

i thought the 3Gs COULD be jailbroken on 4.0 if it was an old bootrom, and never had spirit run on it before.....

No, a 3GS which is already pwned (jailbroken using redsn0w or PwnageTool) at 3.1.2 or earlier can be upgraded to a custom 4.0 firmware. There is no tool to jailbreak a 3GS which has already been upgraded to 4.0.

This just goes to show you why you should do your own research and not trust strangers. 2 people out of this thread knew what they were talking about. thelatinist & dhlizard. And a simple look at sources like the dev-team blog would have provided the answers with out asking.
 
well thank you everyone for trying to help me i guess i will just have to wait for something to come out i hope it comes out soon thanks everyone that makes jail breaking programs never used one but cant wait to try it
