No you're not going to need a connector the video cards still come with ADC so if you have an older Apple LCD it will still work. That should answer your question. The question you asked.

:D

Actually, the 9800 pro special edition comes with ADC. The 9800 pro does not, so you'll need the DVI to ADC adaptor, which is available from Apple.

Sorry I thought he meant he ordered the stock card from Apple directly. And yes, the 9800 Pro is DVI/VGA only, and is only 4x/2x AGP. The Pro SE is DVI/ADC and 8x AGP native.

$100!!!! Damn this sucks. Now I bought a card that cost $300 and have to spend another $100 to use it.

is it the CRT or LCD studio display? hopefully it's the LCD, and yeah it sucks if yours is the non-ADC 9800, because then you'll need to spend that extra $100.

otherwise, if you can return that 9800 pro and get the 9800 pro special mac edition (the one with the ADC connector, in any case), do that if the difference is less than $100.

I have an LCD display. I thought I couldn't use the special mac edition if I have a G4. Anyway, looks like I'm off to buy this thingy. I did see some on google that cost like $25. But I don't think I would be able to power the monitor or usb ports. Grrr..

that $25 part is an ADC to DVI adapter, which is the opposite of what you need. those adapters are ADC-male to DVI-female, and designed to convert the ADC out to DVI.

as for converting DVI to ADC with that part, the genders are wrong. you'd need gender changers on both sides, and even then there's no guarantee that it'd work... because as you noted, you'd still lack power to the monitor and USB.

you might get lucky and get a DVI to ADC adapter for $85 off eBay.
