I currently have a 8x2.8 MacPro with a non-Apple 8800GT in it. I was considering adding another card for Windows use such as the 9800GX2 or an ATI card. I was wondering if anyone has had experience with this and what my best option might be.

I would wait a couple of weeks to see how ATIs upcoming RV700 and Nvidias 280 GTX will perform. At least there will be a price drop for the current products.
And there is the planned 3870 for mac which should also appear this month and is expected to work very well under OS X (although you would be a generation behind the actual)...

I wouldn't mind the 3870, but it isn't the X2 model.

You would be a gen behind... which is significant in this case, since ATI is claiming performance of their 4870 to be equal to or better than a 3870 X2.... making it one powerful card.

And you know how the pricing goes for Apple's version of graphics cards, gen-old or not :x

Frankly, if it is for gaming I don't see the point in getting a Radeon HD 3870 if you already have a Geforce 8800 GT in the machine.

The 3870 will provide a great experience whether you're playing games or on the desktop. The 8800GT doesn't work quite as smoothly in the desktop environment. At least for the moment, since the driver sucks.
