Hey guys, just the other day I opened my laptop to find a thin green line run from the top of the screen down to the bottom. It's towards the left side. I don't know how it got there, what it is, or anything about it. I've tried restarting my computer, turning it off, etc..Any advice on how to get rid of it or what it means would be helpful. Thanks.:apple:

It's either a problem with the LCD itself or the graphics card starting to die. By chance, do you have an MBP with the 8600GT?

Thanks.

And I have no idea...how would I find out?

Click on the apple in the top left-hand corner of the screen -> Select 'About This Mac' -> Select 'More Info' -> Click on Graphics/Displays in the sidebar on the left, and it should tell you what graphics card(s) are installed :)

GeForce 8600M GT...Thats what it says, whats' that mean..?

Every 8600M GT is defective and will fail sooner then later. Apple extended the warranty on machines with the 8600M GT and will replace it (sometimes giving customers a brand new up-to-date machine).

Didn't Nvidia fix the issue with the 8600M replacements?

Not that I could ever tell. At work (Apple repair tech, local authorized dealer, left a few months ago) we would continue to get in 8600 machines with the same GPU issue over and over again (Now the big thing is 8800GS iMacs failing left and right).

Thanks for the help guys. I'll bring it in soon. That'd be sweet if they just gave me a brand new laptop...but how would they transfer all of my data and stuff over?

There's a nifty little program on your Mac called Migration Assistant, that will easily allow them to hook up a cable between the two computers and transfer all the data.
