Not a lot of talk here about the new 9th Gen! I upgraded from the first Retina model.

On the Retina, I have an Apple Smartcover, and then a folio case of sorts (ironically from Verizon, I got a great 2 for 1 deal on it). I had hoped the 9th Gen would fit inside that case, but even naked it doesn't.

I haven't decided if I'll get a Smartcover or a keyboard-type case for the 9th Gen. But in the meantime I need to get something. I've gone back through a number of old threads and picked out a few possibilities.

I am guessing the 7/8/9 will all fit a case pretty much the same? I want to go as slim as possible, but know I may add a keyboard at some point. Needs to close somehow and I don't think it's worth getting unless there is a little compartment for extras (SD card reader, power cable and maybe a future pen)

These are some I came up with - any thoughts for or against?

I found a couple of Tomtoc's https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08B8PVXS...colid=1FKQ420EZAIZI&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it&th=1

They also have one with a handle https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075G8D17...olid=1FKQ420EZAIZI&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

Lots of colors! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CQFSPC...olid=1FKQ420EZAIZI&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

Since no one responded, I figured I'd respond with a review of sorts. I ordered 3 cases:

I ended up picking the Tomtoc, below are my thoughts on all three.

Tomtoc had 5 stars, the other two had 4.5. Tomtoc was a little more expensive. I still don't have a cover or case on the iPad (though I did get it into my iPad 3 case, barely), so I am trying to keep that in mind for room in the case.

The NIDOO and MOSISO are nearly identical, though a little different in size. I wasn't able to yay or nay any of them immediately.

The MOSISO got put in the refund pile because it smelled the worst (yes that's what it came down to - they all have funny smells). It also uses cheap zippers.

Between the NIDOO and Tomtoc it came down to this:
- Tomtoc is just a hair bigger inside, which may or may not matter. I just can't say I'll get a cover/keyboard in the return period and didn't want to deal with something too small later.
- NIDOO also has cheap zippers and Tomtoc uses YKK
- NIDOO and MOSISO have opposing zipper orientations between the main part of the case and the accessory pouch. Either make them both open horizontally or both vertically. I would not have minded a vertical main case. But with them being different, I could see myself at one point dumping either the iPad or the accessories all over the floor when I rotated the case to get something out.

I didn't field test them as I didn't want to dirty them, but those are my impressions with just handling them and inserting/removing the iPad. I may actually get a Tomtoc case for my MBP to replace my Radtech cover which is falling apart. I don't expect any of these cases to protect either device from a hard fall, but they will over a bit of protection and at the very least, prevent scratching while being carried around.

ps - I liked the Tomtoc color the least :(
