back up your stuff, do a factory restore and update of your devices tonight.

Why? Well tomorrow you will be forced to do it. And if happens that you don't have all the updates and you get hit by say the iMessages bug from not having 7.0.6 or similar you will lose functionality unless you get iOS 8.

That's complete BS.

If you don't want iOS 8, just make sure whenever you charge your phone to keep the WiFi turned off. Apple cannot and will not download the OS file over your phone's data plan (but they will on WiFi). And even if they do put the file on the phone, if you don't want it, just don't press "Install"! Pretty simple.

I should know, I've had iOS 6.1.3 on my iPhone 4S until a few days ago when I upgraded to 7.1.2. I won't be moving iOS 8 until I get a brand new device.

I think the OP intended to say: If you plan on staying with iOS 7.x, it would be a good idea to do a clean install soon while iOS 7.1.2 is still being signed because in the future you won't be able to.
