So just curious on the thoughts of this product?
I have allergies and being inside can really cause issues for me especially during sleep so I’ve had this a couple years back and it seemed to help and made a difference that I’ve noticed. So I decided to do it at my new place. Let’s see if I notice a difference after a week or so.

Any thoughts or opinions? Anyone else have UV lights in their a/c?

I should think a Merv 13 or higher filter would be more effective for allergens. I thought UV lights in the AC are for anti microbial purposes.

As I recall, you need a special filter for UV light. As it damages normal air filters.

Going with a Merv 8

I've been shopping air purifiers, think I'm pretty set on products from Blueair, same general reason, get the air cleaner in the house, less allergens, etc.

Have you looked into any of these sorts of solutions? Another brand that comes up in "best of" reviews is Coway, they have a couple of highly reviewed models, smaller units, for $165-190.

no actually I’ll have to look into those brands. I call about 5 local a/c companies here and most of them use the Reme Halo models or Fresh Aire. I also heard of Air Scrubber but it was what my tech had on hand and it was a dual light model so I went with it. I think the make a solid difference.

Personally, I had a system with a UV light and MERV 10 filter. The UV bulbs kept going out due to short blackouts. The bulbs needed a twenty minute cool down when turned off. Which a short blip in power didn't provide.

After some research I found Merv 12/13 was optimal and cheaper than UV resistant Merv 10 plus UV bulb plus pre-filter. So, I gave it a try. I found air quality was much improved using the higher Merv rated filter than the lower rated filter plus UV. As a bonus costs went way down.

I'd say just try it out before going to the cost of installing UV. You can get a filter pretty cheap and try it. Nordic Pure is what I normally use. Much cheaper than something like Filtrete or Honeywell.
Just measure to make sure the actual size will fit.

I did keep using a cheap pre filter to extend the life of the main filter. As the new house only allows a 1" filter. I just use a MERV 13 and change it monthly. Although I'm tempted to build a filter box for a larger six month filter plus pre filter. Then install it myself.

Yeah I just put the MERV 8 into today so we will see how it goes. There’s a MERV 11 and 13.
since I can be sensitive allergy wise I may try the MERV 13.
