I have a Google account that uses Yahoo email and I want to change the email to a gmail address. So I created a new gmail address, which automatically created a new google account, so now when I go to my old account (the one using yahoo) and I try to change the email to the gmail address it tells me that that email is already associated to another google account.

I am now stuck with two Google accounts: One with an old email address (yahoo) and one with the new address (gmail). Deleting the old one is not an option as it has numerous YouTube channels associated with it.

What gives? How do I get out of this mess?

Thanks

Looks like what you should have done was to add Gmail to your old account and create the new gmail username that way.
By creating a new Gmail address first you now have two accounts, and there's no way to merge the old account with the new.
Here's some more info.

I had the gmail account for a long time but I was using the Yahoo one for just about everything, including Google.
I’ve now decided to move away from yahoo to my existing gmail account.
It is bonkers that they don’t allow a simple change of email. I guess I’ll have to keep the two accounts separate.

I’ve just found out that I can assign the other account as the owner of my channels and, eventually, after a week I can mark it as the ‘Primary owner’ which should then allow me to remove the ownership from the old account.
Sounds convoluted but it might work.
