So, pardon me for thinking about stuff other than my day job for a bit...

I think it's pretty nice that when playing a song in iPod, you can see what's playing and adjust the volume. Press Center and you can track around. press Center again, and you can rate it with the (overly sensitive) wheel.

Is that all there is?

I'd like Apple to provide the architecture to allow geeks like me to write their own little plugins that can be installed or removed into this daisy chain of functionality, which currently has just those three modes.

Here's some I'd like to be able to create, each one accessible by pressing Center, like we do now:
- Lyrics: If the song has lyrics with it, this plugin will let you scroll through them.
- Info: How often was the song played? When was it added? What about all the other stuff iTunes knows about it?
- Cover Art: Well, duh, to that one.
- Pitch/Bend/Scratch: I'd only use this for novelty sake
- Command: Jump out of this playlist and into this Artist/Album/Genre. Delete this song. Flag this song for further activity back in iTunes ("This would be a good one to add to my 'Mellow' playlist")

I also wouldn't mind being able to edit the other parts of iPod. I have over 1,000 artists. What a horrible pain it is to find "Led Zeppelin" in all that, specially while driving. I'd like to write a browse-by-letter plug in, where I pick "L" then "E" then "D" and bang, there it is.
