Hello Macrumors users,
When I tried to install Windows XP on my new Macbook Pro via Bootcamp, I encountered the following problems. What should I do in order to successfully install Windows XP? Is there a way to unpartition my hard drive so I can start from scratch without completely reinstalling Mac OS X?
The first of my problems started when I tried to install Ubuntu on my new 15 Macbook Pro, using this tutorial: http://www.helium.com/items/421906-how-to-install-linux-on-an-intel-mac-with-boot-camp
There was no real reason for doing this besides novelty. I partitioned the hard drive for 10GB a couple of days earlier, and everything was going great. The installation finished with the ejecting of the Ubuntu installation disk, and the system prompted me to restart. With the pushing of the enter button, the system froze, and I was forced to manually reboot.
Since then, whenever I enter Boot Camp Assistant and press continue, I get this message:
The startup disk cannot be partitioned or restored to a single partition. The startup disk must be formatted as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume or already partitioned by Boot Camp Assistant for installing Windows.
On a side note, I recently purchased Parallels Desktop for my MBP (for use with Windows XP), and everything works great!... Except for PC games like HL2 or Portal. I recently found out that when using a VM in Parallels, it can't access the NVIDIA cards like a PC running in native conditions can, so my only option is to put XP on Bootcamp to run these games.
Since Boot Camp Assistant is no use to me as of now, I went into Disk Utility. It appears as though my hard drive is split into four sections: 1. Macintosh HD - 221.88GB 2. BOOTCAMP - 32.16MB 3. DISK0S4 - 10.16GB 4. Linux Swap - 510.37MB
I don't have any idea why the BOOTCAMP partition has 32MB (when it should have 10GB), why DISK0S4 has 10GB, or why Linux Swap or DISK0S4 even exist! When I try to erase/delete Linux Swap or BOOTCAMP (with the little minus box), I get this following error message: Partition failed MediaKit reports partition (map) too small. When I try to delete/erase DISK0S4, I get a loading bar that lasts forever and I am forced to quit.
What should I do to fix this problem? What steps should I take? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
