I have multiple problems with the new TV app after switching to Catalina.
Let me first describe my home setup: I have 3 mac computers. The main one is an iMac. That contains my current "iTunes" library (music and video files).
I also have a MBA. I use that as my travel computer, but I also use it to watch my TV shows (from my iMac TV library) when I am at home using my iMac for other purposes.
My third computer is a brand new Mini, and its main function is to store my video archives (like old seasons of TV shows). This archive spans three external drives, which we'll call "iTunes 1", "iTunes 2" and "iTunes 3". On my Mini, it knows thinks "iTunes 3" is the drive to use for new imports.
The totality of my TV library on my Mini spans three drives, all fine. The totality of my TV library at home spans 4 drives on 2 computers: 1 on iMac, 3 on Mini.
My first problem (P1) is perhaps the most annoying: when I try to connect the MBA TV to my iMac library, I usually get a partial library. It seems like I need to reboot my iMac in order to get my MBA TV connection to see all of my iMac library. (This is not an issue with DRM because everything used to be fine on Mojave.)
My second problem (P2) concerns my two Apple TV 4K devices; after going to Catalina, I have had problems connecting my ATV4K devices to my iMac TV library. Sometimes it would not show the library content. Other times it would not play the video (seemingly stuck in buffering stage). To get around this, I'd have to restart my devices once, sometimes twice or more, before things start working. When my iMac was a Mojave, it was infrequently problematic. Now on Catalina, using my ATV4K boxes have become annoying.
My third problem (P3) is that on my Mini, when I used to import video from my iMac when using Mojave, it would save the files in "iTunes 3" properly, using TV Show name and season as sub-folders. For example, importing Season 3 Episode 2 of TV show Fun with Macs puts it into "/Volume/iTunes 3/Movies/TV/Media/TV Shows/Fun with Macs/Season 3/02 Name_of_Episode.m4v". But on Catalina, it would just drop into "/Volume/iTunes 3/Movies/TV/Media/TV Shows/Fun with Macs/02 Name_of_Episode.m4v". I tried to play with the TV Preferences, but cannot seem to get what I want anymore. I need to not have it affect the files in "iTunes 1" and "iTunes 2".
Note: (1) all devices are on the same network; (2) all devices are using the same iCloud account; (3) home sharing is on; (4) all was fine (or mostly fine) when my computers were on Mojave; (5) all devices are on the latest OS releases; (6) I do not have a router or bandwidth issue.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!
