A few questions about SSDs

This SSD just went on sale:

and I'm considering buying it for my 2011 MacbookPro 13" except that I have two main questions:

1) How will this hurt my battery life
2) Would the Samsung 840 or another SSD be a better buy than this? I ultimately want what has the best speed.

What you should ultimately want is an SSD that is reliable and Patriot has had some problems in the past. Anyway, there are SSDs that have proven to be more reliable and also cheaper:
