1. Is there a way to get recored movies and shows off an DirecTv DVR to iMac so I can convert to put on ipad or just watch on Imac?

2. Is there a way to hook VCR or a DirectTv Sat box to Imac to watch or is can you watch online?

If this isnt in right place plz move

For both cases you'll need a digitizer of some sort such as a Canopus ADVC110. It goes DVR -> Digitizer (via composite video) -> iMac (via Firewire). Then capture it with iMovie or something.

This'll be standard def.

This does not answer your question, but...

I have an HD TiVo recorder on my home network. At a site called www.tivocommunity.com I learned about several free programs designed to move non-copyrighted materials (like standard HD TV fare) to any computer (or server) on my network.

So, I know that's not the kind of DVR you have but you might find another community forum where similar software and/or knowledgeable people can help.

Good luck.
