A folder of pics from a zip drive disappeared...

My wife plugged in a thumb drive and was dragging a folder out of it to place in her iPhoto library and it completely disappeared. No puff of smoke or anything. I've searched everywhere on the mac for it and it's not there. It is also gone from the original thumb drive. What the heck happened? It's not in the trash, not in any folder. I've searched with Quicksilver, Spotlight, the 'Today' folder, the 'All Images' folder, and nothing. Where could it have gone? We have an iMac.

Maybe something happened with disconnecting while copying? OSX spits you that message about device removal blah blah. I've had a USB memory card (those 35-in-1 things) appear then disappear at random and if I'm copying something to the memory card, it will need to be there the entire time for any trace to make it over.

As for the original files missing, I'm afraid I'm lost.
