Well my G5 Dual 2.3 Ghz died yesterday. First started seeing errant reboots, then turned it on the third time and smelled smoke, then the machine died. Looking at it, you can see burnt lines on the motherboard, the power cable to the board is melted, and pulling the drives and putting them into other machines and they will not run, video card shows no signal, USB3 cards will not connect to devices.

So today, I opened the drives and took a hammer to the platters. I pulled out the internals, recycled the cooling tower and the actual case to a local friend who wanted them, the rest went to the computer recycling store.

Any sympathy can go to the G4 Dual 1Ghz and my G4 Cube. . . .the only remaining working PPC Macs left in the house. They are powered off today in mourning.

I suspect your PSU blew and took everything with it. Based on what you describe with the LB, it went out in a burst of energy.

RIP!

So sad to hear... I do love hearing how these geriatric PowerPCs are still getting on in the world. Sadly my G5 tower died young when the cooling system leaked. So much potential lost. Hopefully there's some consolation in knowing that your G5 lived long and lived a life of service.
