i'm new to OS X. are there any good password keepers that keep the password file encrypted?

Keychain. You can store anything in there. The whole database is encrypted with your password. If I am wrong about this someone will come along and correct me.

No, ur right. Its very helpful. One password to control them all.

Just so you know how to find it, it's in Applications/utilities/Keychain Access.app

..it took me forever to even know it was on my Mac. It saved my butt one time.

It automatically saves passwords as you go along. It's pretty sweet. :)
