A Hack to Remove the Lower 3rd of the HomeScreen Darkening?

I find that it really takes something away from many wallpapers, when the lower 3rd of the home screen is darkened. Are there any hacks available to remove this?

I'm interested as well. Perhaps even editing the wallpaper itself to counteract the shadow would be of help? Hmm..
