I just got off the phone with an apple specialist for the upper west side nyc store, asking him about buying an iphone device only. He said it's first come first serve when the store opens, and I asked him what are the chances I could get one tomorrow morning if I come when they open. He said there is already a line around the block "for tomorrow?" I ask. "Yes."

That's ridiculous... who is camping overnight for a product they might or might not receive a shipment of, over a week after launch?

I also just got off the phone with the 5th ave store and they said they don't receive shipments on Sundays so it isn't likely they will have any available tomorrow. I don't get why they don't let device-only purchasers do online reservations like last year. Saves so much time and effort.

Half the people in line are switching out their scratched/dented up iPhones.

I wonder if Apple would allow one to accompany someone who is doing and exchange because of a minor scuff, and then offering to buy that very scuffed phone from apple. Not everyone cares about the scuff, and since it is new, why not just buy it and take it off of Apple's hands? Seems like a win win situation for Apple, and for those waiting to get a phone who don't care about a minor flaw.
