I had here a macbook air 2008 1.6 non ssd, completely damaged, the motherboard was working (as well as the hd), so I wanted to use it to have fun with old games. To my surprise, NFS U2 ran at 15fps at 640x480. Performance sucks completely.

I realized that it was the processor being hanged, despite my efforts to improve thermal dissipation with quality thermal grease, thermalpads, and fan at maximum, the results were still not satisfactory. TSbench calculation gave me 148, after the improvements, 142, but I decided to go further: Install a desktop cooler.

I used copper shims, and secured it with a hellermann clamp for testing. The result was a silent system, with passive cooling, and 100% better performance, TSbench gives me 132, and NFS U2 runs at 1280x960 medium at 25fps.
