A miracle happened last night.

My OG HomePod, which has been literally dead for two years with the dreaded +/- flashing logic board failure issue, magically came back to life last night and is now up and running and reunited with it's surviving OG HomePod!

I know I posted about this somewhere, but it must be 2+ years ago, after updating to 16.6, one of my two OG HomePods started flashing the +/- thing and would not reboot or reset, which I was told was the dreaded logic board failure issue. It's also why I never turn on my 2011 17" MBP, haha.

I almost sent it to that Nic dude to repair, but was convinced that as soon as it came back the surviving OG HomePod would also die, so I left well enough alone and the dead HomePod sat on a shelf looking pretty but useless while it's twin carried on in limited use reading my messages when I didn't have my iPhone handy.

Last night, while trying to rest so a headache would go away, I happened to notice the dead HomePod looking forlorn and sad. I felt it was time to put in the closet and reclaim that shelf space when I thought.....hey.....let's plug it in once last time and see what happens.

So for the first time in 2 years I plugged it in and.....

"I cannot connect to the internet right now, please check that your iPhone is on the same network."

IT LIVED!

Not sure how to reset it without seeing it in the home app I called apple support and we were both amazed when it actually reset, updated to 18.5, and returned to functionality, reunited with it's twin after so long.

The support rep and I joked that it was like this HomePod was like that ship in the movie event horizon and to be careful.

He was as amazed as I was. "I never get calls like this," he said.

So.....I can't tell you how or why this happened, or how long it will last before dying again, I will not be using it too much.

All I can tell you is, if you have a HomePodOG and it does the +/- thing.....leave it unplugged for a few years and try again?
