I signed up for the PB battery replacement shortly before I left for my trip to SF and the Mothership, and was told by Apple that it was safe to use the battery just as long as I physically check the temperature of the battery every ten minutes. However, the battery itself failed on the first night of my trip, where my PB dies when I remove the AC adapter even with the battery at full charge. So I made a trip the Burlingame Apple Store to see if I can get a replacement battery even with the recall. Even though some reps told me that it was a lost cause I still waited for my name to be called. At first, the genius determined that the Logic Board was the cause of the failure but after some switching of batteries with another PB, he determined that the battery was the problem and that it would be replaced under warranty on site, but there were no parts avaliable and told me to visit another Apple Store. Later in the day, I went to the Stonestown store and after the same troubleshooting, I got my recall-safe replacement battery and went on to enjoy my vacation.
