I have a Ryzen PC with AMD X570 itx mainboard and Radeon 5700 XT. I use a Belkin Charge and Sync VR cable to connect a DisplayPort port and USB 2.0 port to Pro Display XDR. All works great with DSC at 6k in Catalina. But when I upgraded to Big Sur, Pro Display XDR Looked like 4k or 5k with blurry font. If anyone can help, I'd be so grateful.

Your Catalina says it's using 6K framebuffer with 6K 12 bpc HDR10 output. Catalina also shows W5700X (ATY,Adder), HBR2, DSC enabled.

Your Big Sur says it's using 6K framebuffer scaled to 4K 10 bpc SDR. Big Sur says it's 5700 XT (ATY,RadeonFramebuffer), HBR2, DSC disabled (even though DSC Support is shown as existing).

HDR colourspace is missing from EDID in Big Sur - same serial number so it's the same display in each case. The EDID has the 6K timing in each case. I guess HDR is removed when DSC is not used? So why isn't Big Sur using DSC? And why is the GPU reported as different in each case?

Maybe Big Sur has modified display overrides? I'll check that.

Thanks a lot.

Because I modified my opencore's config.plist. Catalina works great before & after I did this.

Same problem here. Pro Display XDR with Belkin cable on 5600xt working great in Catalina (ryzentosh).

Broken since upgrading to bigsur. Looks like DSC is no longer working. Not getting 6k anymore (looks like 4K scaled. Fonts look horrible). Anyone knows how to fix it and re enable DSC?

sounds like a hackintosh problem.

the pro display works with my iMac and other Apple computers with Big Sur fine.

MBP 16" + Razer Core X + rx5700xt + Pro Display XDR + Belkin cable
Since I upgraded to Big Sur, the setup works for 0.5 - 5 minutes, then I get kernel panic. Haven't noticed if it's switching to 4k or 5k, looked like 6k I think. There are also graphic glitches (half screen grey) on the login screen.

I guess I have to revert back to connecting the display straight into the machine, but that sucks.

Ordered a Mac Mini with M1 until there's a solution.

Just updated my iHack to Big Sur 11.2 RC (20D53) and DSC is still broken. I have a 5500XT and a Pro Display XDR. Runs at true 6K in Catalina using the Belkin VR cable, but only 4K scaled to 6K in Big Sur.

They will probably not enable DSC anymore on these cards:(

I did some more tests and found that if I connect the Pro Display XDR using the included Apple TB3 cable when passing through my Titan Ridge card, I can get full 6K output with DSC enabled. It seems the Belkin cable is no longer compatible with DSC for some reason, but at least DSC isn't totally broken.

They allow it through Thunderbolt but not directly from the 3rd party graphics cards on Big Sur. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the belkin cable as it works great on Catalina

I am starting to worry that you might be right about this. Hopefully the lack of full DSC support is still just a bug but with each new release of Big Sur not resolving it I am really starting to wonder.

With the new AMD 6800 series driver support I have found out that I am not able to drive my Pro Display XDR via eGPU at 6K resolutions under macOS. 5k only. I have tried using the Belkin Charge and Sync VR cable as well as a direct USB-C connection from the 6800 with the Thunderbolt 3 cable included with the XDR. From everything I have read in this and other threads it seems that no DSC is almost certainly the issue here.

The irony is that I can use the Pro Display XDR perfectly on the exact same setup (Mac Mini 2018, eGPU with 6800) in Windows 10 20H2 Bootcamp. It displays its complete and glorious 6k resolution and all monitor controls are working properly. Go figure.

6K with DSC is working for me on macOS 11.3.

I'm getting the 6K resolution with a W5700 eGPU.
I came from Catalina, so I have not tested this on previous Big Sur releases.

But when I connected my MBP to the XDR,
there was a firmware update, which I did not install.

I'm very worried that I won't be able to use DSC after the firmware update.

Thanks for reporting. Is DSC still working after firmware update?

My setup of eGPU + Pro Display XDR x 2 works on Big Sur 11.3.1 perfectly, finally.

eGPU is Razer Core X Chroma + Radeon Pro W5700.

One of the XDRs connects to the USB-C port of W5700, and the other connects to a single DisplayPort of W5700 with Belkin VR cable.

Both of the XDRs work on 6K resolution and 60Hz. Preference mode enabled, and brightness can be adjusted on Touch Bar.

My Pro Display XDRs are both on the latest update. The firmware version is 4.2.37
