Greetings fellow Mac fanatics,

Here is my question. I have one of those old Imac's. I do not have the original install disc :(

I can not get to my desktop anymore. All I get is the Apple logo before the desktop displays with this error message: "Disk OS 3; I/O Error"

since I do not have the original disc OR Disk Warrior, how can I get to my desktop?

Thank you in advance

You should consider Ubuntu as your next OS! Hundreds of people use their old G3 iMacs for Ubuntu now, because Ubuntu is still continuing to support PPC, and it will run much faster than OS X on your old system.

It sounds like your hard disk has died. You can get the original disks from Apple; they're called fulfillment disks.

thanks for the reply Old Wiz. An idiot disclaimer here, but is the Hard disk and the hard drive the same thing?

And i just looked it up, the fullfillment disks are $40 from Apple. These are just replacements if you lost your original install discs right?

thanks

Thanks for the reply Armoguy. I just Googled the Ubuntu. So its a free OS that is better than the Tiger I currently have on it???

hard disk == hard drive.

The fulfillment disks are the same as your original discs.
