I am wondering if it is worth it to upgrade my internet from 1 Gig to 1.5 Gig... And before you all start bashing that this is a non-problem, hear me out:

My ISP modem connects to my LAN, which is based on a Gigabit HP2915 switch that has my Macs hardwired connected to it. Things like my my Mac Pros, and my NAS. My Mac Pros have internet speeds around 950Mbps when I test using Speedtest...

I also have a Linksys Velop 3-band Mesh setup connected to my ISP modem, delivering WiFi throughout the house, connecting to my iPhones, iPads, 3 MacBooks, 2 Cable Modems, etc.

My ISP is now asking if I want to "upgrade" my 1 Gig internet to 1.5 - it'll cost me CAD15 more monthly.

But, can I even take any advantage of it?

The only devices that takes full advantage of the 1 Gig speed right now are my Mac Pros, and they are on the same Gigabit LAN. So, they wouldn't take advantage of a faster internet, would they? The only time I would see a difference is if my WiFi devices are using a bunch of bandwidth, that would leave me with 500Mbps more for the LAN connection.

Am I getting this right?

It looks like the Velop only has a Gigabit port so you're still going to be capped at 1 Gigabit. Unless you have 10GE somewhere you're not going to be able to tap into that extra .5 in any way.

So it looks like the consensus is that I got it right; I will not be able to take advantage of the additional 500Mbps, except by having the overhead when several devices access the internet concurrently. I.e. if my Mac Pro is using 8-900 Mbps via the Gigabit LAN, and then a few WiFi devices also access the internet via the Velop Mesh system - they are on two different ports on the ISP modem...

Unless that is, I upgrade my HP2915 to a 10GbE switch, preferably 10BASE-T based, so I do not have to get into the whole SFP+ port debacle... Then I connect the Mac Pros and the NAS to that switch, and utilise the full bandwidth from my Mac Pros.
