I'm poking around on OWC looking for an enclosure, and I see that one of the items listed is an open-box. I know what open box means, but if it's from a big box store I can return it to them with no problems. On line it's a bit of a hassle.

So, how is OWC with their open box sales? Should I spring for the few extra bucks and go with the new? Also, any suggestions on the enclosures listed, or should I look elsewhere?

Thanks much!

This has been my experience with OWC customer support. I purchased 10 gigs of ram from them last month. Two gigs of that ram was defective. I contacted them and explained what was going on. They sent out the new ram and I got it about four days later. The new ram was good no problems.

1. Here are the positives.

A. They did not hassle me about getting the ram back.

2. Here are the negatives.

A. I asked them since the ram they sent me was defective would they go ahead and overnight the new ram since I had to wait 4 to 5 days on the original ship. Answer, they would have to charge me for the overnight.

B. On the cross shipped they charged my credit card for the total amount. They did take it off when they got the bad ram back.

I was okay with the price, I thought the customer service was average.

This was my experience with them, neither great nor bad.

That sounds pretty typical, except for the 4-5 day shipping... No company is going to cross ship you hundreds of dollars or product without making sure they can get their money if you steal it.

Savings?

One thing to watch out for is whether the closed box enclosure comes with software, because OWC open boxed enclosures do not come with software from I've seen. I noticed this with the Guardian MAXimus in particular.
