A question before traveling internationally...

I'm going to travel internationally in about 1 week. I've read horror stories about people coming back to the US and then realizing they have been hit with some very large international/roaming charges.

What is the best way to protect me from this?

I was planning to do the following. I only plan to use wifi. Thoughts?
Disable cellular network.
Disable location services
Always keep the phone in airplane mode.

Just enable Airplane mode. That will take care of all the cell signals. Then you can turn on Wifi manually. Then you're set
