A question for veterans about shortages

We know there are gonna be shortages for iMacs because it's a new product and there's a cumulative demand for days. I want to ask the Apple veterans how long they had to wait in a similar situation with another Apple product that suffered of shortages.... 2 weeks? More?

My brother bought an iphone 5 4 weeks ago, it should be comming in next week. So i think you have to be really quick to get one of the first sales, otherwise you will have to wait..
